Also, John LePage
and Elizabeth Whited are working together on a
Cumberland history
project.They
are asking everyone who currently lives or has lived
around Cumberland to participate
in making a list of all of the former business in
Cumberland that they can remember.
If you would like to help, your list should include
if possible: the name of the business,
where it was located, who owned and/or operated it,
and to the best of your
knowledge how long it was in operation. If you have
any special stories about former
Cumberland businesses include them as well.
Since the driving force behind this project is to
try to collect knowledge about Cumberland's
History all information is welcome. There is limited
information about Cumberland
Businesses in Wolfe's History written in 1943. We
have very little written information since
then except for an update written by Roy F. Dudley
in 1975 and a passing mention in Rose McAfee's Sixty
Years of Guernsey County published in 2003.
First hand information from former business owners
and those who remember shopping
in Cumberland over the years would help so much
to paint pictures from Cumberland's
past for our future generations.
